Housing on G:a Skolvägen/Hotellviken bay, Saltsjöbaden
The detailed development plan took 20 years to complete, and zuez arkitekter ab won the parallel contract that JM had advertised. The area comprises 12 blocks of terraced housing. To the north of the site is the Saltsjöbanan railway and to the east the level crossing. Because of this, the buildings are orientated towards the south and west, where they can also enjoy the best climate. The atrium courtyard is a solution to the need for privacy.
A passage leads from the street, a wholly public space, past the carports, which have a semi-private feel, into the salubrious climate of the private garden that opens out to the south and west.
The development was nominated for the Urban Architecture Award in Nacka municipality in 2007.
An extract from the nomination citation: “With its studied aesthetics and design, in an area of distinctive qualities, the development adds patent contemporary architectonic expression to the town landscape. The terraced houses have lean-to roofs and smooth rendered facades of a light tone that impart a uniform and soothing feel. Window woodwork in accent colours creates a contrast effect.”
